Post #1/ Week 3- Awful Type

The reason I picked the advertisement below is because I think that if you just glanced at this, you would just think it was a picture of a mailbox.  When actually it is an ad to show that DVD's are delivered.  The font is above the number on the mailbox, 26, and is extremely small.  I do get the idea and I think it is very smart.  Unfortunately, I don't think it will work as an advertisement because no one is going to understand it unless they get a magnifying glass.  In addition to changing the font type and making it a bigger size so that it is at least readable, an additional line of copy in the bottom corner, in maybe a red color, because it would stand out would be a great idea.  For example, if it was NetFlix...they should have their logo in the corner and maybe a saying like "being delivered right to your door."  This way we understand the point of it and know where it is coming from.

Bad Type

When I came across this advertisement in Glamour, I immediately disagreed aesthetically with the decision to write the company's name in numbers and letters. In this example, "Ezekiel" uses 1's, 2's, backwards 3's and an upside-down 7 to spell out the brand's name. Aside from the name being difficult to read, I feel as though the text does not align with the product it is trying to sell. Without seeing the adjacent pictures, I would have no idea "Ezekiel" was a clothing line (or any other product of the like). Also, the text is in reverse type, which takes the viewer even longer to process the intended message.

I agree with Maddie's choice of "bad type." Without reading her description, I would not have realized those arbitrary shapes spelled out "2012." While the warm colors do attract the eye, the type does not enhance the message whatsoever.

Yuck

This is a graphic that is obviously made for the 2012 Olympics in London. I personally do not like it because if this was to be looked at quickly it is very hard to see the 2012 in the background because the font is so crazy. The first time I looked at it I thought they were just random designs. This to me also gives off a graffiti look that reminds me of the ghettos, it does not look professional. They do use warm colors to attract your eye but once people see it they may not get the full idea of it before they turn the page or look away.

My Company Logo

Over the summer I started my own clothing design company called Bear Ink. The company specializes in one-of-a-kind clothing design. Every single shirt is different. I created my own logo for the company.. just thought it would be fun to post it...
